An Answer to the "Are you Hiring?" Question

Welcome to the Scoops Job Page! We are looking ahead to a busy 2010! We will continue to keep our eyes open for great candidates for our summer team so if you are a high school student, especially if you are entering your sophomore or junior year, don't be afraid to fill out an application to be considered for the warm season crew. We may even bring you in to train and be available to fill in during the off season.

Our Crew...

Is friendly, efficient, can text message with one hand, have hundreds of songs on their ipods, and hundreds of friends on their facebook pages, can lead a crowd to cheer our amazing Longhorns, juggle church responsibilities, college level academics, have perfect pitch, amazing humor, and dance moves that put Blue Ridge to shame...all while serving your scoops with a smile...and are an absolute joy to have as a part of our team.  We are extremely proud of our crew in their work and as part of our community.  Come by and meet the wonderful people who serve you at Scoops.

Our current crew is "senior heavy" meaning, that while we adore and want them to stay forever, the hectic pull of the real world will most likely leave a few openings come springtime.

Our positions are highly sought after (hey, it's ice cream!) so we are very selective in adding team members.

Our preference is to hire only those who will be able to be with us through Labor Day as new team members, so if you are a high school senior who will be leaving for college in August, you will have to really knock our socks off to make the team (so underclassmen, please don't be afraid to apply).

Before you apply, a few points to consider

One thing We love about living in a small town is that we have relationships with the people we do business with every day.  We give them business, they give us business, and we are all friends.  We as a small town business know that people are doing us a HUGE honor by chosing our business over the chain down the street, and that thanking them is the very least we can do to show our appreciation.  Therefore, we put an enormous emphasis on hiring youth with exceptional manners.  We stress this--every customer gets a genuine greeting in the door, and a sincere thank you with their change and while leaving.

»We insist on outgoing and friendly personalities, so if that is not you, you will not enjoy working at Scoops

»Scooping ice cream looks like fun...through the glass--but please believe us--it's hard work. It can get warm in the summer months, and it takes both physical strength as well as multi-tasking and awareness to interract with the customers, fill their orders, and work together with each other in a tight space.  Plus it is sticky and can get messy.

»The majority of our business comes late in the evening and on weekends--the time when other activities and commitments come up. If you often have engagements during these times, or go out of town with family, consider if our business needs fit your life. Your high school job should enhance your life, not encumber it!

Our hiring guidelines:

1. You must be at least 15 (but we can only hire 1, maybe 2 at this age due to the AZ governed restriction on hours)

2. Under 18, you must obtain parental permission to apply--and we like meeting the parents of our staffers.

3. You will need to be available at least one day, one night, and one weekend nite each week of the summer.

4. You need to commit to work at least two of the three holiday weekends in summer (Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day)

5. You need to commit to staying thru September, unless specified during the hiring process.

6. You need to love people, love life, and not be afraid to show it!

Do's and Don'ts (hints from Chris and Maria)

DO

»Make sure you can commit to our availability guidelines

»Understand that we witness the behavior of our young customers as an indicator of how they will behave as potential employees, and are always on "scouting" out future team members from those we view as polite and outgoing!

»Make sure to stand out by making eye contact.

»Say hi every time you come by, so we are sure to remember you

 »Introduce us to your parents

DON'T

»Tell us you want to work here because it looks easy, or because you like to eat ice cream

»Send someone in to get an application for you

»Come in and say "You hiring?" It is not likely you will get far. (With any possible employer for that matter)

»Stand silently while your parents explain why you should be on our crew

»Be unsure of how many hours you are looking for

»Tell us you can only work during times your other job doesn't need you

If you think you'd enjoy being part of our team, we would love to hear from you.
